Get ready
5 minutes. Draw four clues to visible, child-height places in one safe room.
What you’ll need
Four sheets of paper and crayons.
Let’s play
1. Choose a story together, such as helping a teddy find its way home.
2. Give the first picture clue. Walk together to the place it represents.
3. At each stop, invite your child to add one sentence to the adventure before showing the next clue.
4. Let the final clue lead back to you. Make up an ending together, then invite your child to design a short trail for you.
Your part in the adventure
Be the helpful story companion, offering a clue only when your child asks.
What they’re discovering
Following picture clues in order and adding to a story along the way builds sequencing, language and teamwork.
Before you begin
Keep every clue in one room you’ve checked, at your kid’s height. Stay away from stairs, heat, water and anything plugged in, and skip the small prizes.
Keep the idea going
Use two clues for a shorter trail, or say the clues out loud for a kid who’d rather not draw. Ages 6 to 8 can write a word on each clue. If energy fades, let the teddy give the last clue himself.
Every child is different. Adjust activities for their age and abilities, and stay close by. These are play ideas, not medical or developmental advice.
