What you’ll need
One deck of cards, paper and a pen for scores.
Let’s play
1. Learn the rules together from a printed sheet or a family member who knows them.
2. Play one practice round with cards face up so you both understand.
3. Play five rounds and keep score on paper.
4. After each round, the winner shares one strategy.
5. Crown a champion and agree on a rematch date.

What they’re discovering
They’re learning rules, planning moves ahead and practicing quick math.
Before you begin
No safety concerns. Keep the rivalry friendly.
Keep the idea going
Ages 8 to 10 do well with Go Fish or Crazy Eights first. Ages 12 to 15 can learn Hearts or Rummy.
