Egg Drop Challenge
Design a package that protects a raw egg from a drop, then test it outside.
Ages 8 to 14
45 minutes
Save as PDF from your print menu.
Get ready
5 minutes. Gather supplies and pick a safe drop spot, like a step or a low wall.
What you’ll need
Raw eggs, straws, paper, tape, cotton balls, plastic bags and a small box.
Let’s play
1. Each of you gets the same supplies and 20 minutes to build.
2. Sketch your design first and explain why it should work.
3. Drop both packages from the same height.
4. Open them and check the eggs.
5. Raise the height and try again with the survivors.
Your part in the adventure
Build your own design so it’s a real contest.
What they’re discovering
They’re designing under limits and learning how padding and air slow a fall.
Before you begin
An adult does drops from anything taller than a step. Wash hands after handling raw eggs.
Keep the idea going
Ages 8 to 10 can work on one design as a team. Ages 12 to 14 can limit supplies to make it harder.
Every child is different. Adjust activities for their age and abilities, and stay close by. These are play ideas, not medical or developmental advice.
