Get ready

2 minutes. Grab two notebooks and two pencils.

What you’ll need

Two small notebooks or clipboards with paper, and pencils.

Let’s play

1. Walk your street or a nearby park and agree on five stops.

2. At each stop, both of you sketch the same thing for three minutes.

3. Pick different things to notice, like a door, a tree, a sign or a shadow.

4. Don’t erase. Fast and messy is the point.

5. At home, lay the sketches side by side and see how you each saw it.

Your part in the adventure

Sketch with them, even if you think you can’t draw. That’s what makes it work.

What they’re discovering

They’re observing closely and getting comfortable making something imperfect.

Before you begin

Stay on sidewalks and in public spaces. Bring water in the Miami heat.

Keep the idea going

Ages 10 to 12 can add labels. Ages 13 to 15 can try one sketch in under 30 seconds.

Every child is different. Adjust activities for their age and abilities, and stay close by. These are play ideas, not medical or developmental advice.
