Make the visit your own
1. A place with a story. Let your child choose a permitted pretend-play space. Ask, “Who could we be here?” Become a helpful visitor while your child invents a small task. Ages 3 to 5 can show you what happens; ages 6 to 8 can explain a problem and a possible solution.
2. The detail exchange. In one gallery, each of you notices a color, shape or texture without moving objects or interrupting other visitors. Describe your finds to each other. Keep your attention on what is actually there rather than searching for a particular exhibit.
3. Our tiny adventure. Before moving on, add one sentence each to a story about your visit. Let your child decide what your characters will discover next. Stop while the game is still enjoyable.
A flexible mini-itinerary
Settle in, about 10 minutes. Ask staff about restrooms and the indoor route. Let your child choose where to begin.
Explore together, about 60 minutes. Try one or two parent-led prompts in permitted play spaces. Follow your child’s interest rather than a fixed exhibit list.
Pause and finish, about 20 minutes. Rest when you need to and talk about a favorite moment. The museum says many families stay 2 to 4 hours. Our shorter version doesn’t count travel, lines or meals.

Admission and costs
Official admission checked October 19, 2026: $26 general admission, or $20 for Florida residents with valid ID. One adult and one child at general admission is $52, before parking and optional costs. The museum lists children under 12 months as free. Confirm current prices and eligibility directly before buying.
Getting there and parking
The official visitor page lists a Miami Parking Authority surface lot on the east side, with pay stations and a published rate of $2 per hour. Rate checked October 19, 2026. Parking is separate from admission.
Access and family facilities
The accessibility page lists wheelchair-accessible exhibits, restrooms and water fountains, plus elevators serving both floors. Ask about stroller arrangements, changing facilities and accommodations you need before visiting.
A bite to eat
We couldn’t confirm food on site, the outside food rules or a good place to eat nearby. Call the museum before you count on a meal or pack lunch, and check allergies with whoever serves the food.
Weather and an easier pace
Keep this visit to the indoor galleries. Outdoor play areas are optional and weather dependent. The adjacent surface parking lot does not provide a verified covered arrival route. Postpone travel when lightning, flooding or severe weather makes it hazardous.
Before you begin
Adults must accompany children. Follow exhibit rules, keep children nearby and choose interactions suited to their abilities. Skip anything that feels overwhelming. PAPITO’s prompts are informal parent-led ideas, not museum programs or reservations.
