Where you’re going
1 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Make the visit your own
1. Ship captain. Watch the boats from the path and let your kid name each one and decide where it’s headed.
2. Splash signal. By the splash pad, call out a color or a move and have them copy it. Walking only, since the ground gets slippery.
3. Sea breeze story. Make up a story about a letter crossing the water. Tell it in three parts while you walk the paved paths.
A flexible mini-itinerary
1. First 15 minutes. Find the restrooms, get everyone some water and start at the playground that fits your kids’ ages.
2. Next 25 minutes. Let them run. If the splash pad is on, this is the time for it.
3. Around 40 minutes in. Take a short walk to spot ships. Hold hands and stay back from the railings and the water.
4. Last 15 minutes. Snack, more sunscreen and one made up story before you head home.
Admission and costs
The park is free. Parking and food from the concession cost extra. Check with Miami Beach for any changes.
Getting there and parking
Parking is paid. Give yourself extra time on weekends, and check the posted rates or look for public parking nearby.
Access and family facilities
The park is accessible and has a playground for ages 2 to 5 and one for 5 to 12, plus tot swings, a splash pad, restrooms by the concession, a water fountain and benches. The playground sits right by the water, so keep the kids close.
A bite to eat
Bring water and a small snack.
There’s a concession stand, but it isn’t always open. Check the posted food rules.
Weather and an easier pace
Much of the park is open waterfront with little cover. Bring hats, sunscreen, water and dry clothes if they’ll hit the splash pad. If you hear thunder or see lightning, leave.
Before you begin
Stay close near the water, the pier, the roads and the splash pad. Wet ground gets slippery. Keep little ones within arm’s reach near the water.
