Where you’re going
Crandon Park, Key Biscayne, Miami-Dade County, Florida
Make the visit your own
1. The seaside color collection. From a safe path or dry area well away from the water, point to three colors around you. Collect them with words, not objects. Ages 3 to 5 can name or point; ages 6 to 8 can invent a color name and explain what makes it different.
2. Where is the breeze going? Watch leaves move from a safe, shaded spot. Predict the wind’s direction and check what you notice. Do not release paper, ribbons or other objects into the air.
3. Make a sound postcard. Take turns describing a sound you would send to someone at home. Then tell a two-sentence story about your morning. No recording device is needed. Keep the focus on what you can notice together.
A flexible mini-itinerary
Arrive with a small plan. Check posted notices, ask staff where the nearest restroom is and pick a spot away from traffic and the water.
Explore for a little while. Try the color collection and breeze game, with a rest whenever needed. Let your child choose a favorite observation.
Close with a story. Share your sound postcards, then decide whether a separate food stop fits your energy and budget.
This is a loose plan from us. It’s not a county program, and we can’t promise beach conditions. For something indoors, check Frost Science, or stay home with Color Detectives.
Admission and costs
County parking charges apply. Recreation facilities and activities may have separate charges. Check the county’s official park information for current rates and any access notices.
Getting there and parking
The county lists paid parking, with different weekday and weekend rates. Choose the entrance for your intended area and check current signs. This guide does not confirm parking availability.
Access and family facilities
Crandon is a large park with several separate facilities. Ask park staff about the closest operating restrooms, changing facilities and accessible or stroller-suitable routes for your chosen entrance. Those location-specific facilities have not been verified for this guide.
A bite to eat
Sir Pizza Key Biscayne. This independent restaurant lists pizza, subs, pasta and salads on its official website. Its listed address is 712 Crandon Boulevard, Key Biscayne, FL 33149. It is a separate stop, not inside Crandon Park.
Check the official menu and current location and opening information. Check hours, allergies and seating with them directly. We’re not partnered with them and don’t get a discount.
Weather and an easier pace
Check current weather, beach notices and park advisories before leaving. Bring sun protection and drinking water. Have an indoor alternative for thunderstorms, strong heat or an uncomfortable wind. Do not use these ideas as advice that swimming conditions are safe.
Before you begin
These ideas are designed to stay on land and do not require water entry. An adult supervises continuously and keeps children close near water, roads and parking areas. Observe wildlife without approaching or feeding it. Follow posted park rules. The county prohibits glass containers and pets other than service animals.
